# ABAA Conference October 2024

October 28th to 30th, 2024 marked the 15th edition of the International Conference on Advanced Lithium Batteries for Automobile Application (ABAA), held in ERA's hometown of Montréal. ERA served as a Platinum Sponsor and co-CEO Sarah Sajedi as its Vice-President and co-Chair!

The conference brought together a wide range of automakers, policymakers, researchers, and other experts in the automotive and battery manufacturing industries to collaborate on the advancement of lithium-ion (Li-ion) EV batteries. Among them, the conference was proud to welcome Canada's Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, François-Philippe Champagne and Quebec's former Minister of Economic Development, Pierre Fitzgibbon.

Karim Zaghib, professor of Chemicals and Materials Engineering at Concordia University, widely considered to be one of the main architects of Quebec's EV battery industry, chaired the event, which he regarded as "a remarkable opportunity for Montréal, Québec and Canada to position themselves as leaders in the energy revolution and play an active role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility." There were over 50 speakers across the three days, two of them being our co-founders and co-CEOs Sarah Sajedi and Gary Vegh. Together, they gave a talk on lifecycle assessment and the regulatory landscape concerning EV battery production in North America and abroad.

The conference comes after years of efforts to bolster the critical minerals and EV battery production industries in Quebec, including a [recent $18 million investment](https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/quebec-to-invest-18-million-to-build-low-carbon-batteries/) from the Quebec government to manufacture cathode-active materials (CAMs) for low-carbon batteries.
